Repository of old Walking Information and websites:
As I try to clean up the links on my website I often find information that is no longer available. Sometimes I am unhappy about the walking history that is lost to us. I decided to keep the information around just in case someone is interested in doing some searching for the missing links and resources.
MISSING: HAVE YOU SEEN THESE RESOURCES?
America's Walking: Fitness, travel and lifestyle series with Mark Fenton (Member of the US Racewalking team for the Olympics from 1986-1991) The links to the resources are still working but the episodes about walking no longer work.
A free ebook that was available to download for free. It was called America's Walking Renaissance by Jay Walljasper, Heidi Simon and Kate Kraft. I beleive it was a collaborative project between Everybody Walk and America Walks and there are references to this book but when one clicks on the freedownload it talkes one to the America Walks blog. Here is a photo of the ebook cover.
The GREAT WALK-ULTRAMARATHON, North America's Toughest Pledge Walk in 'Burning Boot' country!
A "Great" way to raise funds for your favourite charity!!!
In 1978, Tahsis Mayor Bill Lore issued a challenge to Gold River Mayor Vic Welsh, "I will walk to Gold River if you (Vic) will walk to Tahsis." The challenge was taken seriously, the walk happened and a tradition started. This first walk raised more than $5,000 towards their community centre. Since then, the "GREAT WALK" has gained the reputation of being North America's toughest walkathon, raising more than $1,000,000.00 for many worthy charities. Walkers choose to solicit sponsors for the recognized charity or organization of their choice; others just walk for the challenge.
The GREAT WALK-ULTRAMARATHON, is an annual fund raising event sponsored by the Tahsis Lions Club. It takes place on 63.5 kilometres of gravel logging road between Gold River and Tahsis, on Vancouver Island. It covers some of the most rugged and beautiful country in the world. Every Body Walk! You may still find the videos from this organization that partnered with Kaiser Permanente to promote walking.
Idita-Walk This used to be a Boy Scout fundraising event for the Scouts in Nome Alaska. You had to walk 1049 minutes, 30 minutes a day from Feb. 1st to March 31st. In 2016 this event was a fundraiser for the Nome Community Center and then it was discontinued. This is the only info I could find even noting it's existence on the internet. Idita-Walk 2016

KCET Season 2 California Coastal Trail
I have tried to go to their website but I am unable to find the old shows which were worth watching. The information is probably out there so I will leave the reference here to these shows.
Note: KCET was a partner to Every body Walk!

Animator Ryan Larkin uses an artist's sensibility to illustrate the way people walk. He employs a variety of techniques--line drawing, ... I shared this video on the Home Page for many years but the video is no longer available on You Tube. I was saddened by this as I thought it was a fun provocative video. You may be able to find his video on Vimeo.
Walkabout Magazine A Magazine dedicated to the walking lifestyle. This magazine is no longer available. You may be able to find back issues. It was one of my favorite walking magazines!
